The Eighteen91 Story
Perched atop Brunswick Street, the building that now houses Eighteen91 has long been a cornerstone of Whitby’s rich history. Built in 1891 as the Brunswick Methodist Church and Sunday School, this Grade II listed building has witnessed over a century of community gatherings, heartfelt ceremonies and lively celebrations.
In its former life as Chapel on the Hill, it was a beloved café and a unique venue for daytime music events and weddings, seamlessly blending its sacred past with the vibrant energy of modern life.
In 2025, Izzy and Edwin, driven by a shared love for live entertainment and unforgettable experiences, breathed new life into this historic space. Recognising Whitby’s need for a venue that offered something truly special, they transformed the chapel into Eighteen91. Their vision was simple: to create a place where the echoes of the past meet the pulse of the present, a home for live music, comedy and private events that leave a lasting impression.
At Eighteen91, every stone and stained-glass window holds a story, setting the stage for new memories to be made. Whether you’re soaking in an intimate acoustic set beneath the vaulted ceilings, sharing laughter that fills the timeworn walls, or celebrating a milestone surrounded by the chapel’s historic charm, you’re not just attending an event—you’re becoming part of its legacy.
Here, in the heart of Whitby, Eighteen91 invites you to craft moments that will stay with you long after the final note fades.
